I'm curious where Brian teaches (I'll have to check the his presentation) since he said not many students have access to technology in their homes. Even though we have about 25% of our students on free and reduced fees, a recent survey showed that over 94% of our students had access to computer and the internet at home.
One way to get students who don't have access to computers at home to participate in Web2.0 tools is to use some of these tools with their cell or home telephones. The conference presentation on Cell Phones as Classroom Learning Tools demonstrates many tools for creating audio recordings using a telepone. Using this technology allows students to particpate and familiarize themselves with the tools.

Hello, Thanks for all your comments. I was not happy about the rubric myself. So I redid it all over again and posted another one. Please check this and give your input.
I decided to share the comments with our group. This might help everyone understand better.

Tim that link was very useful...

Thanks again...

Interesting project - I am wondering about grading the projects with your rubric; with so many categories and scores, will it be hard to grade the project? I have to admit that I haven't had a lot of experience with rubrics, but that was my thought in looking it over.

You may want to take another look at your rubric for this assignment. A rubric is usually organized so that the teacher assigns a certain number of points that can be earned in each category related to the assignment. And most of categories relate to the content of the presentation.

Take a look at this simple example: http://www.schools.lth5.k12.il.us/aviston/KBLesson8.html. There are many others on the web that you could learn from.

Thanks for posting your rubric....some comments:
-are all criteria of equal value?
-why are students getting points for name, date & subject--shouldn't that just be expected? No name, no grade....
-Time management--does it really matter how they used their time as long as the final project is excellent?
-Number of slides- I would suggest that a criteria that says something like "slides appropriate to content" or slides logically divided by content" would be better than number of slides
-Hyperlinks? again, why evaluate on number of hyperlinks--why not "hyperlinks where appropriate" or, even better yet, outside resources used to support primary content.
-How do you define "creative" in the presentation category
-Information: What if they did a presentation with only pictures? Consider having something about supporting information with notes rather than text on the slides.
(Please know that it is your choice as to whether or not to reveal these comments to the rest of the group)

I read the same article and like your thinking. We had a lot of the same technology integration ideas. I was also thinking a database of connections would help students analyze their learning over a course.

I agree that teachers need to understand the technology students are using daily and integrate it into their lessons to make it their lessons enjoyable and increase student engagement and interest in the lesson.
